Usher has joined on as an executive producer for “Undroppable,” the documentary exploring the dropout epidemic in the U.S. educational system.
Directed and written by Jason Pollock, the film will be completed this year and released in 2014.
Usher was introduced to the film by Justin Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun, who is also a producer on the project, along with Adam McKay, Sharon Chang, Alex Soros and John Powers Middleton. Usher and Braun worked together while launching the career of Bieber, who went on to become a pop superstar.
“I knew Usher was very passionate about the issue of education, so I felt this was a great project to bring him into. His expertise will be invaluable as we continue this film and movement,” said Braun.
A social media campaign has been launched to coincide with the film. The campaign allows students to speak out in video form about the issues they face in school.
A music artist and recent coach on “The Voice,” Usher has been involved in several social issues; he founded a nonprofit, New Look, in 1999 that ensures young people have the tools they need to be global leaders.
Usher produced Bieber’s concert doc, ”Never Say Never,” and has appeared in some films, including “She’s All That” and the upcoming “Muppets Most Wanted.” He’s repped by WME and Grubman Indursky & Shire.
Usher and Darius Rucker have joined the lineup of performers for the Oklahoma relief concert organized and headlined by Blake Shelton.
The May 29 event, titled Healing in the Heartland: Relief Benefit Concert, will benefit the United Way of Central Oklahoma May Tornadoes Relief Fund. NBC is set to air a live broadcast of the concert at 9 p.m. ET/PT; it also will air cable networks Style, G4, Bravo, E! and CMT on either a live or delayed basis.
Usher and Rucker join a lineup that also includes Miranda Lambert (who also is Shelton’s wife), Luke Bryan, Rascal Flatts, Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic, Reba McEntire and Vince Gill.
Tickets for the Heartland concert, which will take place at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, went on sale Saturday morning and sold out in less than five minutes, according to NBC.
United Way of Central Oklahoma plans to use the money raised for immediate, intermediate and long-term recovery and rebuilding efforts in Oklahoma following the tornadoes that devastated the town of Moore last week.
Usher currently is a coach alongside Shelton on NBC’s singing competition The Voice. The eight-time Grammy winner has sold more than 44 million albums worldwide and racked up nine No. 1 hits on the Hot 100.

Usher’s collaborator talked to Rap-Up.com about the upcoming album:
Bellinger likened the sound to Usher’s Confessions era. “More R&B, more urban,” he said of the follow-up to 2012’s Looking 4 Myself. “[Usher] said, ‘This is the one where I have to show I’m still Usher.’”
They recently collaborated on the Diplo-produced “Go Missin’” and previously worked on records including “Lemme See,” “I Care for U,” and “What Happened to U” off Looking 4 Myself.
The reality show newcomers have launched into the chart’s top 10.
Following Shakira and Usher‘s debut on NBC’s “The Voice,” the two pop stars are sent flying on Billboard’s Social 50 chart this week.
The pair debuted last week on the talent show, alongside continuing coaches Blake Shelton and Maroon 5′s Adam Levine. In turn, both Usher and Shakira jump straight into the top 10 on the Social 50. They rise 19-8 and 14-7, respectively.
The Social 50 chart ranks the most popular artists on YouTube, Vevo, Facebook, Twitter, SoundCloud, Wikipedia, Myspace and Instagram. The chart’s methodology blends weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with artist page views, song plays and reactions.
Usher’s rise is driven in part by over 164,000 views to his Wikipedia page (a 341% increase over the previous week). Also factoring into his gain was views to his VEVO channel, which received over 4.8 million views for the week.
